About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and manage the mechanical design aspects of construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards, local codes, and project specifications. This role involves close collaboration with architects, civil engineers, and contractors to deliver efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable mechanical solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership to design consultants, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with international/local standards.
• Review and approve mechanical design documentation related to HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with standards.
• Respond to RFIs (Requests for Information) from consultants and contractors, providing prompt and technically sound solutions.
• Conduct in-depth technical evaluations, electrical load flow and fault calculations, ensuring proper integration with other disciplines.
• Evaluate and approve contractor shop drawings, submittals, and coordination layouts for compliance with design intent.
• Drive value engineering and cost optimization exercises with the Commercial Team while maintaining performance, safety, and sustainability requirements.
• Support QA/QC processes by reviewing material submittals, method statements, and technical compliance.
• Actively participate in high-level design coordination meetings, guiding decision-making for mechanical and multidisciplinary interfaces.
• Ensure all designs adhere to relevant international standards (IEC, BS, NFPA, NEC, ISO) and local codes.
• Ensure close coordination between mechanical and other disciplines to achieve integrated and coordinated design packages.
• Maintain compliance with all relevant local and international mechanical codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
• Maintain strong awareness of global and local brands, vendors, and market trends, ensuring best-value and high-performance system selections.
• Establish and manage effective communication with local and national permitting authorities, utility providers, and approval bodies to secure timely permits and compliance.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering knowledge transfer and internal capability growth.
• Promote integration of energy efficiency strategies, smart technologies, and BMS/SCADA systems into project designs.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 8–10 years of proven experience in mechanical design engineering, including leadership roles on hospitality, mixed-use, residential and infrastructure projects.
• Extensive experience in client/developer environments with responsibility for consultant and contractor management.
• Strong expertise across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning and handover.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and HVAC/plumbing simulation software.
• Deep technical knowledge of mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with international standards and proven ability to apply them in regional contexts. Open to occasional national and international travel.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing design teams, mentoring juniors, and driving complex project delivery.
• Strong planning, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; additional languages are an asset.
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-driven professional with a strong track record of delivering high-quality projects.
